Grant nearly 7,000 RV enthusiasts access to a closed test track, give them their choice of new Holiday Rambler motorhomes to drive, and what do you get? Smoking tires, tons of fun, and absolutely the best way yet invented to demonstrate the superb ride, handling and performance of a Holiday Rambler motorhome.

In fact, that’s exactly what took place during this year’s Family Motor Coach Association Winter Convention in Oklahoma City this past April. Holiday Rambler arranged for exclusive use of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol test track near the rally site at the State Fairgrounds. The test track facility is comprised of an outer asphalt oval, approximately 3/4 of a mile in circumference, with eight adrenaline-pumping hairpin turns. The center of this outer track contained a huge concrete pad (it seemed big enough to land a fully loaded 747). On this pad, orange highway cones created a combination of straight-line lanes and a challenging slalom course.

Use of this track presented the ideal opportunity for potential owners to put one of the Holiday Rambler motorhomes vigorously through its paces. Just think of it... close your eyes for a moment and imagine yourself behind the wheel of a 43’ Navigator thundering down the track, pedal-to-the-metal, with the quiet hum of the rear-engine Cummins diesel churning out 500 horsepower and the feel of the Roadmaster chassis hugging the tarmac. Now imagine the sound of tires grabbing pavement as you enter a hard 45-degree left turn. You instinctively alternate between the accelerator and air brakes to quickly negotiate another 45-degree turn, this time to the right. Then you do it all again as you enter the next series of turns.

As this scenario replayed time after time at the rally, more than one Holiday Rambler sales manager learned a thing or two about driving from a customer “who only drove the church bus on Sundays.” Considering the astounding capabilities of a Holiday Rambler motorhome, many of the sales managers commented that Oklahoma felt more like Indianapolis or Daytona, and many new Holiday Rambler owners would agree.
