2004 Endeavor

SPENDING TIME WITH THE 2004 ENDEAVOR CONVINCED US THAT IT'S A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE A HOLIDAY RAMBLER MILESTONE.
WORDS BY DAVE BESSMER

Year in, year out, Holiday Rambler’s Endeavor has brought reality to dreams – opening vast landscapes along every highway and scenic byway to the enjoyment of all who come. From the comfort and protection of Endeavor’s sumptuous interior, countless RVers have discovered the joy of life on the move.

With each succeeding generation of coaches, the standards are raised, and the 2004 model year is no different. Engineers and designers have been diligently planning modifications and upgrades that will set this coming year’s Endeavor above all that have gone before.

With three new 40-foot floorplans, the 2004 model year sees Endeavor trending toward larger coaches than in years past. The new family portrait will show only one 36-footer, a pair of 38-footers, and seven 40-footers. That in a product line once spread evenly from 34 feet to 40 feet. So newcomers to the Endeavor line are stepping into an environment that is sure to please and guaranteed to pamper.

Changes from earlier models are not made merely on a whim. The design team has an open-door policy when it comes to owner recommendations. And over time, the ideas and suggestions make their way into the finished product. Some are oriented toward function and durability, others are intended to lend a more pleasing appearance, but all are important. As you’ll see in the new Endeavor, the designers strive to raise the level of both form and function at the same time.

"With three new 40-foot floorplans, the 2004 model year sees Endeavor trending toward larger coaches than in years past."

For example, the 2004 Endeavor will have, as standard equipment, Corian countertops throughout. Coaches with the booth option are the only exception, and will remain laminate. Corian is both functional (from the standpoint of easy clean-up), durable and beautiful. So it fulfills every category on the upgrade wish list. Behind the countertops are backsplashes that serve both functional and cosmetic purposes, as they protect the wall from splashing water. The new standard is Corian tile in the kitchen and mirrored backsplashes in the bathroom.

Now, let’s take a walk around the coach and examine all the new standard equipment. Outside is a new manual generator pullout tray, giving easy access to the auxiliary electrical powerplant, making service a simpler process. At the rear of the coach is a redesigned rear cap with the air intake on the driver’s side. From behind the coach, you’ll notice there is no rear window. That’s because the bedroom slideout has been redesigned, allowing for a hardwood headboard with fabric inserts and side windows. And while we’re looking at the slideouts, notice the new Topper awnings giving protection to every expandable room. As you approach the entry, a redesigned grab handle is there to assist. But before you get all the way inside, have a look at the new Endeavor logo, and realize that if you tap into the options list you can even have full deluxe body paint.

Stepping inside, tile entry is available if you want it. It’s one of the new options, and man, it’s nice. There’s a new standard contoured grab handle just inside the door, and a redesigned entry step cover to conceal the stairway when it’s no longer needed. Upgraded carpeting has been included in the new Endeavor, and tile is the floor covering of choice in both the kitchen and bath.

Just for the sheer beauty of it, the old mesh screen previously used in the cockpit overhead cabinet doors has been replaced with smoked glass. So, if you order the optional VCR and DVD players, that’s where they’ll hide. The mesh screen inserts in the closet and linen cabinet doors have also been ejected in favor of wood louvers that look very stylish. While we’re admiring the cabinetry, note that overhead cabinets have been redesigned to provide for a full valance treatment. In the kitchen, the overhead cabinet now has an adjustable shelf. And in the bedroom, the wardrobe doors have been treated to a nice set of decorative mirrors that not only visually brighten and expand the room, but also serve to let you know if your slip is showing or your collar is straight.

"A new large-knob Kenwood AM/FM/CD unit comes standard on every 2004 Endeavor, and this radio has the capability of taking advantage of the high-tech Sirius Satellite Radio system that allows you to tune into your favorite stations no matter where you travel."

With the introduction of the 2004 model year, hardwoods and high-style decorator techniques are used extensively to beautify the interior. To see what I mean, just have a look at the new slideout fascia, the new hardwood private bath door, and the crown moldings above the living room and bedroom slideouts. Satin nickel cabinetry hardware adds a touch of grace, and that touch is repeated in the satin nickel single-handle faucet in the shower. Kitchen plumbing has been upgraded to add a separate faucet for filtered water.

Lighting and ventilation have both seen the hand of the design and engineering teams. New decorative lighting provides luminous beauty, and additional fluorescent lights have been installed in the living area. On the 2004 options list are dash fans and an attic fan with rain sensor for use in the kitchen and/or bath.

New technology brings great things to Endeavor’s entertainment center. A new large-knob Kenwood AM/FM/CD unit comes standard on every 2004 Endeavor, and this radio has the capability of taking advantage of the high-tech Sirius Satellite Radio system that allows you to tune into your favorite stations no matter where you travel. What a boon for radio talk show aficionados! And on the side of visual entertainment, there’s a 24-inch Sony Vega flat screen TV to serve viewers in the living room, and a 20-inch version of the same TV installed in the bedroom. If you order the optional VCR or DVD player, these components are linked to both TVs.

The year 2004 is a milestone for Holiday Rambler – the 50th Anniversary. After our review of the new standard and optional equipment featured on this new Endeavor, we’re convinced that this coach is a splendid way of celebrating.
