There are select manufacturers who achieve true product excellence, who don’t stop until they get their products right. Among this select group, there is an even more select group who continues to improve their products even though nirvana has been achieved. Holiday Rambler belongs to both. They continuously achieve product excellence, and they are never satisfied with success. To find a good example of this, just look to the enhancements and mid-year appointments Holiday Rambler has made to an already excellent 2006 Alumascape fifth wheel product line.
Midway through 2006 model year production, Holiday Rambler has made enhancements that improve eye appeal, improvements that take the Alumascape fifth wheel to an even higher level. For the fifth wheel aficionado a look-see into what they have done merits more than just casual mention. These are mid-year enhancements that are all substantial. They have all been well thought out.
Holiday Rambler has elected to name this collection of mid-year enhancements the Alumascape Glitz Package, and rightly so, for collectively these items do nothing less than make this product sizzle. It’s important to note that these enhancements have been incorporated as standard features in the mid-year 2006 Alumascape. The one exception is the new optional cherry wood choice for interior cabinetry and trim. With its dark rich appearance, the cherry wood option helps those who enjoy warmer tones create the ambience they prefer.
The mid-year enhancements total eight, with every one finding its genesis in Holiday Rambler’s top-of-the-line luxury Presidential product line, where attention to aesthetics is held at a premium and visual correctness is attended to with great care.
The Alumascape is available in 12 different floorplans and can be enjoyed with two, three or four slideout rooms. It is in the area of slideouts that one of the significant interior enhancements can be found. Regardless of which type of wood the client chooses for the interior cabinetry and trim, the fascia that dresses and surrounds the leading edge — across the top and down along both sides – of every slideout room now incorporates an inlay design. Created by the craftsmen who specialize in wood working for Holiday Rambler, this new fascia features a fluted insert and decorative appliqué corner blocks, with inlay elements that include an elegant rope type design, the kind often used to provide that finished appearance that is found on fine furniture. The section of fascia that spans the two vertical end pieces has been slightly arched, a look that yields the impression that there is an even greater dimension to the ceiling’s interior height.
Select interior pieces of Alumascape hardware now feature a bushed nickel finish, which again is reminiscent of the elegance found in Holiday Ramblers upscale Presidential product line. One such item is the brushed nickel based ceiling fan. Another is the modern brushed nickel residential high-rise faucet with sprayer. This high tech appointment speaks volumes about Holiday Ramblers obsession with accessorizing the interior correctly, an obsession that keeps them on the cusp of design excellence.
The third upgrade is faux ceramic tiles that now dress the galley and entryway of the mid-year Alumascape. This is a change that appeals to the eye and provides easier maintenance. In lieu of the roll out type composite flooring, the new faux ceramic tiles are individual pieces and have interlocking mechanisms that permanently lock them together when they are set into place. These composite tiles are also thicker than roll out material, a feature that yields better insulating characteristics and is more resistant to wear in high traffic areas. But the pluses associated with this new composite tile don’t end there. These interlocking tiles provide a look that gives the illusion that these faux ceramic tiles have been individually laid and grouted in place. In the living or salon area the mid-year Alumascape

includes several new enhancements. Examples include the addition of decorative glass inserts in several of the salon area cabinet doors. A stylish residential camel back sofa — complete with wooden legs — is a beautiful addition in the living area. In the stateroom, a color coordinated decorative headboard graces the head of the king size bed. For those exceptionally tall individuals who may ingress and egress the Alumascape, there is a new feature that is functional and attractive. In the entry way, a padded, color coordinated trim piece has been added across the top of the door frame to protect those whose heads may come in contact with the door frame.
We would be remiss if a brief discussion of how the Alumascape is constructed were not detailed, for regardless of how visually pleasing a recreational vehicle may be, if it is not substantial, well designed and assembled with great care, all the good looks in the world are for not.
At the heart of every Holiday Rambler Alumascape is their patented process called Alumaframe® construction. Using the strength associated with the geometry found in the interlocking C-channel aircraft grade aluminum structural members; at the point where the horizontal and vertical members intersect they are welded. Holes are punched in the members add further strength to each member and provide the penetration of the electrical wiring that will be run. In the grid pattern formed by the intersecting members, residential insulation is cut to fit and glued into place. A vapor barrier is included as is a thin sheet of foam core insulation that prevents the migration of temperature differences through the aluminum members that exist between the interior and the outside.
The walls consist of six layers. The ceiling is a nine-layer structure. The floor is welded tubular steel with fiberglass batton insulation placed between the members and a solid core interior floor placed on top. A layer of Darco — a material that is impervious to moisture and dust — is placed on the roadside of the floor structure as a barrier against road debris.
Holiday Rambler believes in the Alumascape’s construction, and stands behind it. The company backs the aluminum or steel frame structure of the sidewall, roof, front and rear caps of this product with a five year limited structural warranty and offers live customer support 24 hours a day, every day of the year for the life of the unit.
There is no magic as to why the Alumascape fifth wheel continues to lead the market segment that Holiday Rambler has in their cross hairs. In this segment, innovation and product quality are the reasons the Alumascape continues to lead. |
