If you’ve always been a fan of the light-in-weight, heavy-on-value travel trailers on the market, and especially impressed with Holiday Rambler’s recent entries in this segment, well, you haven’t seen nothin’ yet.
The company has taken every element that made its 2007 Aluma-Lite travel trailer popular and successful, and has made it even better.
Framing and Construction
“The new Aluma-Lite travel trailer features a unique construction this year,” said Holiday Rambler’s National Sales Manager for Towables, Brad McKinney. “Sidewalls are now 16 inches on center with 2-inch by 2-inch aluminum stud framing, as well as 5-inch aluminum truss roof rafters with 3/8 decking, and a 3-inch aluminum framed floor with 5/8 flooring.”
This six-sided aluminum framed construction lends superior strength, light weight and exceptional durability. Not to mention value. “The 2008 Aluma-Lite is an aluminum framed travel trailer priced below many wood-framed travel trailers,” McKinney said. “That’s exceptional value for such construction.”
Aluma-Lite’s enclosed undercarriage significantly improves fuel efficiency, improves appearance, allows for more interior storage space, better insulation and heated holding tanks. There’s also R-7 fiberglass insulation throughout, with a blanket of foamcore, for added comfort.
Last year’s smooth fiberglass exterior walls have been replaced for ’08. “Sidewalls are covered with a .024 aluminum exterior skin this year,” McKinney said. “This construction method enables us to keep Aluma-Lite’s price as competitive as possible and adds to its overall value.”
Depending on coach length, total dry weight for the ’08 Aluma-Lite ranges from 4,526 pounds with a GVWR of 7,526 pounds, up to 6,690 pounds with a GVWR of 10,976 pounds. Fresh, gray and black water tank capacities are 40 gallons across the board.
Floorplan Design
For 2008, Holiday Rambler has designed five versatile floorplans, ranging in length from 26 feet to 31 feet. “We’re offering two 26-foot single slides, a 27-footer with no slide, a 28-foot single slide and a 31-foot double-slide,” McKinney said. “All five floorplans feature a front queen bed with pass through storage below.”
As McKinney noted, bunkhouse floorplan designs are most popular during the summer, but at Aluma-Lite’s competitive price, bunkhouse designs outsell the rest. This serves both Holiday Rambler and its customers well, as more than half of this year’s Aluma-Lite floorplans include bunk beds.
We’ll begin with the 26-foot BHS, which boasts a roadside sofa and dinette slideout, a queen-size bed (60 inches by 80 inches) in the front, and a pair of twin-sized bunks (30 inches by 74 inches) in the rear. The most unique feature in this unit, however, might be its entertainment center and pantry. The floor-to-ceiling structure houses the TV, DVD player (optional) and all electronic media on one side, and pantry items on the other. It also doubles as a clever divider separating the living area from the bedroom, allowing occupants to enter and exit the bedroom from either side. (See photo on page 29.) This design creates a more open feel to the space.
There’s also the 27-foot BH, the lone floorplan without a slideout. The bunkhouse setup in this layout features a full-size lower bunk (48 inches by 74 inches), with a twin-size upper bunk in the rear. The 27 BH also has a queen-size bed up front.
The largest floorplan offering for Aluma-Lite is the 31-foot BHDS, a double-slide model, with a queen-size bed up front, and the same entertainment/pantry center as the 26 BHS. The large slideout houses the sofa and dinette, and the smaller slide houses the full-size/twin combo bunk setup. “This second slide does wonders for the bunkhouse area,” McKinney said. “It opens up floor space for an entire second bedroom in the rear.”
As for the non-bunkhouse floorplans, there are two very different offerings available. The 26-foot RKS has a queen-size bed up front, a single slideout that houses a sofa and overhead cabinet, and a rear kitchen layout. The 28-foot RLS has a queen-size bed up front, a large single slideout that houses a sofa, overhead cabinets and dinette, plus a pair of barrel chairs and a large picture window in the rear.
All floorplans feature standard large galley countertops, a double-door refrigerator, rich cherry cabinets, large stainless steel sinks, and full wardrobes with drawers in the bedrooms. Two interior décors are available: Windsor Blue and Vintage Moss.
A super light-weight travel trailer that is safe, easy to tow and packed with value is hard to find. Add five distinctive floorplan designs and an enormous number of options to choose from, and Holiday Rambler has the Aluma-Lite travel trailer that’s perfect for you and your family.
