1. Problem: Loose Mirrors.
Solution: The job requires two people and one wrench. Sit in the driver’s seat with floor pedals positioned exactly where you put them when traveling down the road. Have the person standing outside loosen the mirror screws enough to adjust the glass until you can see clearly down the complete length of the motor home. Once done, tighten the screws.
2. Problem: Torn Window Screen.
Solution: Remove the screen and place on a flat surface. Using a straight screwdriver, remove the gasket from the frame groove and discard damaged screen. Cut new screen to overlap framing at least one-inch. Stretch new screen evenly over frame and apply tape to temporarily hold it in place. Starting in one corner, press rubber gasket back into the frame groove using a flat screwdriver or a screen spline roller. When finished, trim the gasket and excess screen as needed.
3. Problem: Cracked Tile.
Solution: Protect surrounding tile by covering the surface with cardboard. Carefully drill holes diagonally across the cracked tile with quarter inch drill bit. Break damaged tile into pieces using a ½ inch wide chisel and ball peen hammer. Pry up loose pieces with a flat bar and discard. Scrape old mortar from the floor to make a level surface and vacuum up debris. Spread new mortar evenly. Position the new tile so it is centered in the space and allow mortar to cure overnight. Mix grout to a thick paste and apply using a rubber flat in diagonal passes. Be sure to pack all joints. Let grout cure for fifteen minutes and then smooth the joints with a rounded object. Remove excess grout from tile with a wet sponge and polish using a dry cloth.
4. Problem: Carpet Damage.
Solution: Cut out damaged portion using a sharp hole saw. Cut carefully to avoid harming the pad underneath. Use the removed patch as a pattern to measure the replacement piece. Cut new piece from the back using a sharp razor knife. Apply glue to backing of the replacement piece. Insert into the hole, making sure to match up the pile.
5. Problem: Sticking Window.
Solution: Open window and clear debris from the track using a damp cloth. Wipe dry and apply a light coating of silicone lube. If the track is bent, cut a wooden block to fit into the channel. Place block into the channel and with a rubber hammer, lightly tap the soft metal along the frame. Remove wood.
6. Problem: Scuffed Flooring.
Solution: Rub linoleum spots with white toothpaste and a dry cloth. On stubborn stains it may be necessary to apply light oil to a towel and rub. Degrease the area with liquid dishwashing soap and water. To remove minor blemishes from wood floors, rub with steel wool and wood floor cleaner. Soap build up can be removed from tile flooring by scrubbing with white vinegar and a clear water rinse. To remove gum, tar or wax from tile, scrape away excess and wipe the remainder with a rag soaked in kerosene. Paint spills on tile can be erased using acetone.
7. Problem: Loose Molding.
Solution: Secure by applying a small amount of clear silicone under the molding and holding it in place with tape until dry. You can also nail a new pin in the molding as long as there is a secure wooden surface underneath and finish by filling with wood putty.
8. Problem: Flat Fabrics.
Solution: Evaporate moisture that is weighing down the stuffing inside bedspreads and furniture cushions by placing these items out in the sun for a few hours. Flip the fabric over halfway through. Avoid harsh sunlight that can fade the fabric.
9. Problem: Peeling Wallpaper.
Solution: Using a putty knife, smear wallpaper paste onto a piece of printer paper. Rub the paper against the underside of the peeling section. Press wallpaper against the wall. Slide the writing paper out and smooth away bubbles with a clean cloth.
10. Problem: Loose Handles or Knobs.
Solution: Tighten using a flat blade or Phillips screwdriver. Grasp the knob or handle on the outside to prevent twisting that can scratch the wood as you tighten the screw on the inside.
