Final Fall Road Trip Ideas

November 4, 2021

Obviously you can continue to travel through the end of the year, but with winter just under one month away, we wanted to offer a handful of destinations where you can soak up the last remaining colors and temperatures of a fantastic fall season.

Fredericksburg, VA
If you’re looking for a final fall trip full of stunning natural beauty, this modest Virginia town should be first on your list. Yes, it has plenty of great shops, breweries, and dining options to keep you entertained. But the real star of the show is the trail system, which winds you through and around the city, and leads you to everything from scenic river overlooks and railway views to gorgeous fall foliage and picnic-ready parks. It’s also about an hour from Washington, D.C., so you could double-up and explore our nation’s capital, too.

Garner State Park
Concan, TX
Most of us don’t immediately think of Texas when we talk about fall foliage, but mid-to-late November is a perfect time to catch one of the most stunning areas of the Lonestar State. If the weather’s right, you can take in the picturesque Hill Country terrain via inner tube on the Frio River. Otherwise, you’ve got 16 miles of magnificent trails to wander, including around the Balcones Canyonlands.

Santa Ynez Valley
Santa Barbara County, CA
If you prefer to take in the fall colors while sipping delicious locally made wines, set your sights on the Santa Ynez Valley. Nestled between the Santa Ynez and San Rafael Mountains, this popular California destination boasts more than 300 Santa Barbara wineries across its six communities (in addition to art galleries, restaurants, shops, and a casino). We highly recommend making some reservations in advance.
