New to RVing? Avoid Making These Beginner’s Mistakes

April 14, 2023

The RV life can definitely be the best life – but there are so many important details to consider before making a full commitment. You can prevent future headaches and challenges by avoiding common beginner’s mistakes. Here are some tips to ensure a smooth transition to life on the road:

No reason to rush.

Give yourself plenty of time to plan, make lists, perform research, map out routes, etc. Taking extra time now to be well-prepared and knowledgeable will save you down the road from mistakes made in haste or forgetting important details. You’ll also want to literally slow down – maintaining a lower speed on the road is better for less wear and tear your RV all around.

Practice makes perfect.

If you’ve never driven a large recreational vehicle before, the process can be intimidating. It’s considerably larger and less graceful than your regular car or SUV, and it will take lots of practice parking, backing up, and turning around in tight spaces. You will get the hang of it in no time, just make sure to be patient with yourself and cautious with your surroundings.

Be prepared and complete checklists.

Make sure your motorcoach is ready for the road – from regular maintenance checks, oil and fluid changes, brake checks, fueling up, tires full and balanced, and anything else your dealer recommends. Taking the extra steps for prep before you hit the road is essential to safe adventures!

Get involved.

There are so many other RVers you can connect with via social media groups, online chats, magazine subscriptions and more. Get to know your ‘colleagues’ on the road and share tips, advice, must-see stops, favorite places and fun stories from your RV adventures.

Living the RV lifestyle can be so rewarding – staying prepared and avoiding common mistakes will ensure you have the best time!
